Miners Memorial Database

The Miners Memorial Database, outlined below, contains the names of coal miners who were killed in or about the coal mines of Nova Scotia. At present it contains a total of 2,275 names. The database covers the period of time between November 28th, 1866 to November 17th, 1967, about 101 years.

The database was created by extracting the names from a book, which is on display at the Miners Museum in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia. One copy of this book is under glass and another is available for visitors to leaf through.

The book does not contain all the names of those who have died. Some omissions are evident as a result of the nature of the historical documents. A verification process is underway in order to correct the omissions. The Department of Mines annual reports are being used as the definitive reference. The outline below will indicate which portions of the database have been verified.
